four evenings of gatherings were held in august-september 2023 at the origins centre at wits university in Johannesburg to address a different facet of the theme of women's work as artistic practice. each gathering assumed a similar format, starting with a 40-minute keynote provocation followed by four 10-minute talks and then a prompted panel discussion and/or q&a.

the speakers and prompters comprised a selection of artist-women/artist-mothers and thinkers working in contemporary south african art practice todaythese thought-provoking and insightful talks created a space in which conventional narratives could be challenged. the gatherings offer a collective act of reimagining of the ways in which care, creativity, and feminine wisdom can coexist and evolve, re-envisioned as acts of radical, transformative potential
